About the Journal

Ancient Lanka is a collaboratively peer-reviewed and collaboratively edited open-access journal that explores Sri Lanka’s past. The journal publishes on a flexible, rolling schedule and uses a multidisciplinary approach to develop content for both academic and public audiences. Invited reports on archaeological excavations, surveys, material culture, and commentary related to reconstructing Sri Lanka’s past are considered for publication.

Ancient Lanka operates on a diamond open-access model, meaning it is free to read and free to publish in, with no article processing or publication fees. The journal is sustained through volunteer editorial work and institutional support. This model helps keep Sri Lankan archaeological research accessible to global communities without cost barriers.

The editorial team consists of volunteer professional peers who work directly and collaboratively with authors. The journal follows an open review process rather than blinded peer review, to support transparency and constructive scholarly exchange that aligns with the journal’s community-based and collaborative ethos.
