Résumé

The Trial of Tempel Anneke offers a unique insight into the mindset and perspectives of women living in late seventeenth-century Germany. This paper will focus on understanding the religious elements of Tempel Anneke’s confession, in an attempt to understand how her religious beliefs changed over the course of her trial. To complete this analysis, Tempel Anneke’s interrogations will be studied in detail for her references to God, Jesus, and the sacraments. This paper will argue that Tempel Anneke’s faith went through four distinct phases over the course of her trial due to the pressures she was experiencing from the magistrates and court officers.
